Reviewing Your Purchases: Creating reviews benefits customers, vendors, and yourself

More and more, customers of online stores rely on product reviews when making purchases. They look to others’ experiences when making choices about what to buy, and this is no different for DNN Store Customers, who look to reviews to answer questions like:

 • Did the product do what was advertised?
 • Was it easy to install?
 • What is the quality of support I can expect to receive if I do run into questions?

Here is an example of a detailed review of the popular Dynamic Registration module that gives this kind of valuable information to other users:

The most obvious reason to review your purchases is to note this information for other customers, knowing that at the same time these other customers are reviewing products you may consider in the future. However, there are other advantages to leaving product reviews here on the DNN Store.

First, leaving a review can be beneficial to a module/skin’s developer. Maybe you’ve found a bug that the developer didn’t know existed, or brought attention to an area of documentation that was lacking. Based on factors like experience or project requirements, different customers will have different experiences with the same products. Even if a product has been around for several years, one customer may point out something that the vendor hasn’t heard before, and this will help them develop a stronger product. Furthermore, if the developer sees that multiple customers have the same feature request (as pictured below), they may add this to the product’s road map, or place a larger importance on including it in a future release.

In turn, this means leaving a review can also be beneficial to you, the customer. Most developers care about their product ratings and want good (4 or 5 star) reviews. If they can remedy a situation that caused a lower rating/bad review, they often will, and if you’ve taken the time to give a detailed (and fair) review of their product, they will value your suggestions. Here are a few examples:

Customers will receive email prompts to add reviews 30 days after making a purchase from the DNN Store, and at any time, customers can submit reviews from the “Add Reviews” page of their account. With over 2000 transactions made on the DNN Store each month, customer reviews have the potential to be a great resource for the DNN community.

Have you made a purchase from the DNN Store recently? If so, take a minute to make sure you have added a review, and feel free to leave a comment here about what module or skin you would recommend for other DNN community members!

A new study has inspected the importance of reviews in building business trust. The study for instance stated “Trust plays a key role in business-to-consumer (B2C) and business-to-business (B2B) online transactions, which affects the success of business for Web vendors. Consumers are more willing to adopt E-Commerce and to make a transaction with unknown or unseen vendors if they trust the vendors and consider it safe to disclose private information with them.”
The study could be found here: http://www.ibimapublishing.com/journals/JIEBS/2015/886172/886172.html
