Features:

  • Minimal setup and configuration
  • Easy Menu driven setup or 100% customizable via XML
  • Album and slide data provided by XML
  • Auto-playback with multiple transitions (e.g. fade, shape, slide, wipe, etc.)
  • Album and slide data provided by XML
  • Cross-browser (IE 6 and 7, Firefox 2, Safari 2 and 3, both Windows and Mac!)
  • Can be sized to fit any design
  • Includes Full-screen Mode

Administration:

When a module is first added to a tab, the user is prompted to edit the module Settings which builds the XML configuration file.  Both the configuration and data files are created in the portal root with a naming convention gallerySL_[ModuleID]_config.xml  and gallerySL_[ModuleID]_data.xml  These files can be edited manually to use advanced Slide.Show options.  Currently only galler height, width, and background color can be edited via settings.
The module provides two action items to edit either albums or slides
In edit albums, you can control the initial display album and default transition.  Allbums are edited in the Albums datagrid and contain properties for Title, Description, Transition, and the album image.  In edit mode, the user clicks on the album image to select an image stored in the portal.
In edit slide, you first select an album.  Slides are then edited in the Slides datagrid and contain properties for Title, Description, image, and thumbnail.  In edit mode, the user clicks on the slide or thumbnail image to select an image stored in the portal.
The image picker opens a modal window with a dropdown to select the portal folder images are stored in and then allows the user to click on an image to setect it.

FAQs

FAQ's

  • Q: Is there a character limitation for the Album description and the Photo description?

A: Technically no - but the display of the description is limited.

  • Q: I like the module but need to know if it is possible to control the duration of the transitions? In the example site, each picture is displayed for some time, but on my site I have lots of pictures to display and I would want the picture to change after 4/5 seconds. Is there a setting on this module to control these timings?

A: it is, but you will have to manually edit the xml config file

  • Q: Hi, we wanted to purchse your software, however, what is the diffference between single license and interprise license? Lets say we would only put it on one server, does this mean we online need the single license version? THanks

A: The single license allows you to put the gallery on a single DNN installation (supporting multiple portals). Enterprise allows you to put it an any number of DNN installations/servers.

  • Q: Hi there, Nice app indeed. I have the need to install once instance of the gallery, but depending on a client ID or product ID or even a File ID, will show the relevant images (and even albums) for that particular record. Can this be done? eg: I have a directory of customers. Choose Advertiser A, all their info appears on the page, plus all their photos load into the gallery on the fly. Look forward to your reply. Cheers, Dan

A: Not with this gallery. It could be done for multiple instances if each page/module were tailored to the user.

  • Q: ErrorCode: 4001 When i change image have this error : ilverlight Error message ErrorCode:4001 ErrorType: ImageError Message: AG_E_NETORK_ERROR Why? The version of my dnn is 04.07.00 Thanks

A: Make sure all the images and thumbnails are pointing to an image in your portal directory. This error means an image does not exist (typically the "click to pick" image)

  • Q: I have purchased the product. It is possible archive the images in subdirectories?

A: Yes...you can put the images in subdirectories

  • Q: The product is localizable? Thanks

A: To some extent. The text displayed to the site visitor is not though.

  • Q: I have interest on the this Silverlight Gallery to be a part of my applicaiton. But i have some queries before i purchase your product. One of the most important thing is about the customization of the UI. Is that possible for me to doing some layout change to fit my dnn outlook with the standard edition license? Also, i need to doing some user permission rights connected with the album. Is it ok with standard edition license. Appreciate if you can reply me soon. Many thx.

A: With the module, you can change width, height, and the background color. If you want alter the GUI appearance more than that, you can dig into the XML Configuration file and alter the GUI to your heart's content. Permissions for the module can be set like any other module, but can't be subdivided in the module. Any role that can edit the modle can add/edit/delete albums and slides.

  • Q: Falcon, When you add files to the slide show albums, does the process require HTTP POST or can files on the host filesystem be added directly? Are the original filenames retained or is another nomenclature used? I have thousands of 10Mpixel originals already archived on my hosts, and I would like to batch add them if possible. If not I would need to batch add some placeholder fiels with the same name but smaller size and overwrite them via ftp. Can your module accommodate my needs? I just am not goign to be able to individually add files, or deal with changing input formats, and renaming thousand sof pictures. Thanks

A: Images can be added by editing the data.xml file directly. When a module is first added to a tab, the user is prompted to edit the module Settings which builds the XML configuration files. Both the configuration and data files are created in the portal root with a naming convention gallerySL_[ModuleID]_config.xml and gallerySL_[ModuleID]_data.xml. Original filenames can be used for all images used in the gallery (albums, slides, and thumbnails. I'd be happy to work with you to develop a mod that will add all the images in a given folder. This is on my ToDo list. Contact me at don @ falconwebtech.com

  • Q: I am looking for a gallery module that allow me to pass the image data on fly (file name, directory, description, orientation, hsize, v size etc. etc. ), and an xml file will be good. The best will be if it possible use a Sql query with "for xml" option Can your module do that ? Thanks, Sandro

A: The gallery can be configured to use a different data provider to take advantage of REST and JSON. This is useful for more complex scenarios where cross-domain file download restrictions are an issue. However, as currently deployed, the module would require modification to take advantage of REST/JSON services. This is on my ToDo list. Contact me via my web page and we can discuss options.

  • Q: Hi, if a user don't have Silverlight installed which is the look of the gallery ? There is a direct link to Ms site for download it ? Thanks, Sandro

A: Yes...If Silverlight is not installed the user will see a graphic with links to download Silverlight. You can see an example here: http://www.falconwebtech.com/getsilverlight.jpg

  • Q: Just a little confused - will visitors to the site have to download the files and install them from MS and have to restart their browser to see the photos like I did?

A: Silverlight, like Flash, requires a download. After a successful download and installlation in Internet Explorer, the browser page should be automatically updated. In Firefox, you will need to restart the browser. You can now start using Silverlight.

  • Q: Hi , any example page? thanks jens

A: Yes ... you can view the demo at http://www.falconwebtech.com/DNN/Modules/SilverlightGallery/tabid/58/Default.aspx
