Works as advertised!
Dependable module from an ultimately undependable seller.
The XMod stuff is really for programmers. To their credit the guys who produce this stuff have tried to put across that it's not for the novice. On the other hand it's being sold to novices left and right.
This stuff isn't always for the rank beginner, but it does what it says and the subscription has heavy value added for the serious / involved site.
This is without a doubt the coolest skin I've ever owned.
This programmer does not answer emails or trouble tickets. The module corrupted my database. I'm lost the ability to edit any of my many Bonosoft modules. This seems to matter very little to the programmer.
Personally I think this thing works like a champ. Does exactly what it claims to do.
Ultimately I seem to have gotten a bad download or more likely a bad version of this module. The programmer refused to let go until it was working and the only reason it gets a 4 instead of a 5 was a rather lengthy (2 week) inconvenience.
Spot on!! Does what it says without complaining or being catered to...
I bought this and am using it. I like it. It adds something substantial to one of my sites. I do not think that it is truly and "index" though... While the module lists your key word it is not the type of index that allows one to just move to an index page and find the locality of one certain keyword, that is to say if one were to access the index seeking "Churchill, Winston" one would not see all of the places on the site where that name occurs, only sites that have that name as a title.
This module is more or less a menu with descriptions. It is beautiful aesthetically, but frankly it is a bit more of a site map than an index.
I love this thing... It can be used in a lot of ways, but it's not "abstract" to the point that one doesn't know how to start... I have a very content-heavy site, MemphisHistory.com, and this module allows me to get very very specific, especially about terminology without eating up a lot of real estate or creating new pages. I am very satisfied with this module.
Mr. Spohn has some good software, but just a couple of things. It seems he made a good start, but now is no longer around. I like his WatchDog and Slipstream products, but all of the promises of upgrades, etc. are untrue. I was promised a year of upgrades / new products etc. but after 5 months I have never seen any upgrades, no methods of moving to DNN4, etc.
I have no insults for anyone, but it appears strongly to me that Spohn Software is unable to move into ASP2. If you don't believe me, then buy this package. Jerry Spohn obviously did some good work early on, but if I had to prove that he DID NOT die 18 months ago, I would be tongue-tied. There IS NO upgrade path out of this package....
This works as advertised. I now think it's pretty limited for the price, but that's my fault.
I have based over a years work on the back of this module. I saw one quirky version, but it got fixed pretty fast and it wasn't THAT quirky. My site is called MemphisHistory.com. It may be a boring subject, but it will show you how this module may be used to manage 90% of one's content.
This product has a lot of bang for the buck. I would call that my whole review in a nutshell. If you are reading this review you have probably already read some of the other reviews that talk about how good the support is. I agree that the support is good, but one should ask one's self why it is constantly commented on.
I believe it is constantly commented on because you cannot run this store without support. The store is feature-rich, but the individual who created the documentation is not a person whose primary purpose in life is creating documentation. When I read that the doc was somewhat obscure and hard to follow I did not realize that the doc was also 250 pages long.
Not only does the documenter take a lot for granted about my understanding of their proprietary methods, but there is little in the manual that fits with my idea of organized content.
The pity of the thing is that once one does understand what is required the code works well and has many features. I would say if you have more time than money and can work through the issues with the programmer, you will get a lot for a relatively small amount of money. However, one cannot understate how impenetrable and un-indexed the supporting documentation is.
One gentleman reviewing this product said he was able to implement and understand this product in one day. I remove my hat to that good gentleman for he is quite astute.
If you know a good bit about computers and files, etc then you will be able to ask the questions that will get you into a pretty cool portal store then give this one a try. If you are looking to get running today without any problems then you may choose to keep shopping.
Okay, listen, you don't want to use any version of XMod (and I've used several) if you've been drinking. It is not simple, it is complex. It's not complex in terms of "the documentation is so obfuse I can't even find the directory" it is just feature-rich. It is built for the person that knows what they want and may not be the perfect thing for a newer person that just wants to send an email. It works as advertised all of the time.
Simple module, performs as advertised. In fact I have to give this one extra points for ease of use. It's one of those modules you start to take for granted.
This thing was pretty cool. I had a number of large PDFs I wanted to place on my site. There was one PDF that this module just couldn't handle because it was HUGE, but it solved some problems I had. Through breaking up the PDF a bit I published a full city directory on my site (one of the 20 largest cities in America.
Once again, I bought the whole package and felt like the deal was equitable. The skins are smart, but reasonably conservative, very easy to modify. Really I guess I should say that these are my go-to guys for a skin now. It's mostly because of the "no nonsense" quality of the product. Works as advertised.
As usual these guys were spot on. I haven't tried to break the code on skins at all, but when I HAD to edit this skin it was easy. This is one of 8 skins I have bought from these guys and I have found no bugs as yet.
The module works well. The only thing I did not like is that the input order is not flexible. One cannot simply poke an image or other content into "top row, space two". You just have to live with it or start over if you make a mistake about the order. Otherwise clean and I have found no bugs. I am continuing to use it as is and that's a compliment I think.
First, there are no icons included, but the software has been coded with the requisite icon references. I put in a ticket with Snowcovered who advised me that they forwarded this concern to the programmer. Three days later there is just silence. I think the software works well, but it is a little plain in appearance with type running together. I believe it is more or less worth the money, but everyone should understand that the package is incomplete. Snowcovered does not accept liability on these purchases. That is passed on to the programmer. I've worked with Snowcovered for a few years and they are great guys, but beware and read the reviews..... I'm about to start having to create a load of icons...
